Using case study as research design, a detailed analysis of semi-structured interview involving organizational personnel (leaders, managers, and frontline employees) who lived in northeastern New York, and working in various disciplines and professions was conducted and recorded.

NVivo software was used in generating the major thematic links and invariant constituents of the study.

This dissertation addresses the phenomenon of how academic leaders conceptualize faculty performance practices.

Qualitative research methods were used to explore the experiences of 11 academic leaders from 4-year higher education institutions in the metropolitan area of New York, NY.

Business and management researchers have shown that performance appraisals have continued to remain a standard component of the human resource management (HRM) function and play an integral role in contributing to employee performance and job satisfaction levels.The supplemental file or files you are about to download were provided to Pro Quest by the author as part of a dissertation or thesis.The supplemental files are provided "AS IS" without warranty.We use cookies to make interactions with our website easy and meaningful, to better understand the use of our services, and to tailor advertising.For further information, including about cookie settings, please read our Cookie Policy .Results of the study revealed five significant themes: (a) essential descriptions of performance appraisal, (b) perceived rewards of performance appraisal, (c) differences and similarities of performance appraisal systems across different organizations, (d) perceived association of performance appraisal systems and work outcomes, and (e) recommended changes in performance appraisal systems.Employees who have positive experiences with the system associate performance appraisal with something equally beneficial to employees’ improvement and the operational performance of the organization.The conceptual framework for this study was rooted in organizational justice and motivational theory.Research questions examined the perceptions of employees of performance appraisals on job satisfaction.Academic leaders initiate structure, demonstrate consideration, but they do not have full decision making autonomy.It is challenging to execute processes in a way that is fair to faculty, in line with personal beliefs, and respectful towards the institution.
