The New York Times Neediest Cases Fund d/b/a The New York Times College Scholarship Program has been recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a not-for-profit public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Contributions to the Fund are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.The Al Hirschfeld Foundation believes in the importance of a good education and the opportunity to rise above adversity to succeed.The New York Times College Scholarship Program provides not only a great opportunity for students to further their education in school, but provides them with real-world opportunities through internships and cultural experiences.The students receive their scholarship funding from public contributions and an endowment fund, supported primarily by a gift from the Starr Foundation.The scholarships may be used to pay tuition, room and board, fees and other educational expenses.Click here to download the application form and requirement details.In the media, working class immigrant women are often depicted uneducated, conniving and inarticulate.The application period for 2019 scholarships has ended.The application period for 2020 scholarships will open in the fall.My parents’ work ethic and daily struggles continue to serve as an inspiration for me to strive for a relevant and meaningful education and profession—and to be the first in my family to receive a graduate degree.Thanks to my parents’ encouragement, I was able to graduate cum laude at UCLA with a Psychology and Asian American Studies double major and an Education minor. further catapulted me to work on issues of student and community empowerment.
